“Well the frost is on the pumpkin and the hay is in the barn….”, I just love those lyrics from James Taylor’s “Walking Man”. They just seem to sum up this time of year. That yearly clean up and prep for the cold wintry weather ahead, kicked off with a bountiful harvest feast better known as Thanksgiving. I’ve probably mentioned more than once that this is my favorite holiday. No gifts, no pressure, just a wonderful long day filled with good company, great food and that cozy indoor ‘cooked all day’ feeling. I’ve been hosting Thanksgiving since my first year of marriage, so I’ve become a pro at working out the details and making it truly stress-free. Hello friends! I’m pleased to be offering these gorgeous Hedge Farm Brand candles for purchase. These candles have two pounds of premium wax for long burning times. The scent is cool citrus basil. The container measures approx. 5.5″ tall and wide at the top, the base is approx. 3.5 wide and is reusable as well! They come wrapped in a cellophane bag tied with a large satin bow as shown, ready for gifting!

I think many of us can relate to that statement. October truly is the epitome of autumn and the fall colors here in the northeast come to their full fruition. Then comes that inevitable day or weekend, and it really happens that quickly, when the leaves go past peak and down they all come. October is such a fun month to enjoy all the fall activities, visiting pumpkin patches, apple orchards, leaf peeping and just strolls out in the country. Then we send the month out with the grand finale of Halloween! Every child (and some adults) favorite. Welcome October and welcome to perhaps the most colorful season!

It’s the time for fresh starts, new schools, new experiences for many and a time to get back to a more scheduled life. Wow, August already! I hate to admit it, but I’m never a big fan of August. Too many signals make it feel like the beginning to the end, and the ever dreaded words, “back to school”!! So here I’m pledging that I’m going to ignore it and enjoy every last bit of summer. I started a challenge to try to take more time to myself. I’m a do-er and always feel the need to be busy. I’m learning to let go of that mentality. Every day should afford time to relax, enjoy some quiet or whatever it is that makes you happy.

July is here and summer is into full swing. Schools are out, the kids are all home. It’s time to get around to enjoying long days and filling them with fun. When my children were younger they all swam for the local club swim team. They played tennis and golf and their little tanned tired bodies seemed to be full of boundless energy. Needless to say, I spent alot of time in the car! Now that they drive themselves to all the things that fill their days, I have more time to devote to gardening, developing recipes, and even, dare I say, sit and enjoy some down time! I have mentioned before, that I always try to eek out a small amount of “me time”, usually at the end of the day, just to relax and take in the beauty of the season. Be it strolling through the gardens or sitting out on the patio with a glass of rose. I offer this tip to you to do the same. Remember summer is fleeting, be sure to soak it all in! I’ve often said that June can be a month of new beginnings and bittersweet endings. For me personally, I once again have a high school graduate, causing me to reflect on the fleetingness of life. Wondering what lies ahead for my child, and hoping for success and happy experiences as she leaves one life behind and ventures into young adulthood – new beginning, bittersweet ending. It seems at times that life moves along in a daily hum of mundane activities, then suddenly we stop to realize, “wow, how’d I get here?” Happens so suddenly. I am recovering from my ski accident. It seemed life came to a grinding halt and those initial months were very long days. But now I am here, just starting to walk again and grateful for that, especially because June is here. I will try not to be wistful, but instead live in the moment and carry on. Welcome Summer!
